The Matchmaking Story

The Matchmaking Story

It Started With One Conversation.

Before there was a matchmaking institution, there was a man listening carefully to singles and recognising that the real problem was rarely a lack of options.

It was a lack of clarity, structure, honest guidance, and a community built to protect the dignity of single people.

Ernest Toho, Africa's King of Matchmaking and Dating Coach

The Origin

Walking alongside singles.

From 2008 to early 2012, Ernest led the youth and singles ministry of a church community with a membership strength of over 9,000 in Johannesburg. The work placed him close to the private realities singles carried behind confident public lives.

He listened to questions about readiness, attraction, heartbreak, standards, family expectations, loneliness, and the pressure to choose quickly. Again and again, he saw capable people enter dating without a reliable way to judge compatibility or protect what mattered most to them.

Those conversations revealed a lasting calling. Singles did not merely need introductions. They needed clarity before chemistry, guidance before commitment, and community that valued their lives now, not only after marriage.

What Changed

When dating moved online, something was lost.

I did not set out to become a matchmaker. I set out to understand why so many good, serious, capable people were failing at something that should be simple: finding someone right for them.

Long before dating apps, communities relied on people who understood their people well enough to recognise character, family, values, and compatibility. The process was personal, informed, and accountable.

Online dating expanded access, but volume replaced judgement. Depth was traded for endless profiles, and serious singles were left to sort through the unserious, the dishonest, and the merely curious.

From Calling to Institution

One purpose, built to grow.

What began through personal conversations became a wider vision for dating culture across Africa, its diaspora, and the world beyond.

01 · LISTEN

The conversations came first.

Ernest's work began by hearing what singles were actually experiencing, without judgement, performance, or generic answers.

02 · BUILD

Justified Connect began.

In late 2012, Ernest founded Justified Connect Singles World to turn individual guidance into an institution capable of serving singles at scale.

03 · LEAD

A movement took shape.

The work grew beyond introductions into coaching, counselling, education, community, and a call for a fairer dating culture.

Matchmaking is not the art of putting two available people in the same room. It is the discipline of understanding who they are, what they are ready for, and whether their lives can genuinely meet.Ernest Toho

The Matchmaking Method

The Filter First Protocol

This is a complete three-part framework, not a slogan. The sequence is fixed because most dating mistakes begin when attraction or a flattering profile is allowed to override real standards.

Lens One 01

Filter First

Begin with the identity-level standards and genuine dealbreakers that govern whom you can responsibly consider. These may include faith, location, parental or marital status, social habits, financial independence, and anything else truly non-negotiable to you.

Lens Two 02

Then Personal Profile

Consider the visible profile: age, profession, location, physical presentation, career path, education, exposure, travel habits, and everyday tendencies. Important information, but never a substitute for compatibility.

Lens Three 03

Then Character

Character cannot be demanded or reliably read from a profile. Kindness, warmth, generosity, selfishness, arrogance, and integrity emerge with time, especially under pressure and when leverage shifts.

The Essential Nuance

Your thresholds determine the lane.

This is a structure for honest self-reflection, not a universal checklist imposed identically on everyone. A trait may be a Filter for one person, part of Personal Profile for another, or something assessed through Character. A dealbreaker is only real when it genuinely governs your choices.

Filter First. Then Personal Profile. Then, patiently, Character.
In that order. Every time.

The Lead Practitioner

Personal judgement still matters.

As founder and lead practitioner of Platinum/VIP matchmaking, Ernest brings more than a database to the process. He brings years of listening, pattern recognition, coaching, counselling, and direct work with singles.

That experience shapes three essential standards:

01

Readiness before access. A person can be impressive on paper and still not be prepared for a healthy relationship.

02

Compatibility before convenience. Proximity and availability are not substitutes for aligned values and intentions.

03

Dignity throughout the process. Every introduction involves real people, not profiles to be consumed and discarded.

Continue Your Journey

Clarity comes before the match.

Wherever you are in your dating life, begin with the next step that fits what you need now.
